Mike Miller
might start Game 4?
What is
this world coming to? I understand Miller has been playing great basketball,
but only on offense. Spoelstra is looking to shake things up. His team just
lost by nearly 30 points and is afraid of being in a 1-3 hole. LeBron has said
constantly that he will do whatever it takes to win. If the Heat lose another
game in San Antonio, their hopes for a championship might slip away.
Mike Miller
is not the answer, but hey, I don’t think Pat Riley knows what is. If Miller
ends up starting, LeBron will likely continue to guard Kawhi on defense,
forcing Miller to help Bosh contain Splitter and Duncan. Splitter will need to
step up offensively, and look to utilize his size in the post. Mike Miller has
a capability of picking up dumb fouls, and if Tony Parker gets Miller out on
the pick-and-roll, he is subject to leaving Duncan or Splitter wide open for a
basket or even a second pass for a shot (aka Danny Green three-pointer).
Miller has
been shooting exceptionally well, having gone 5-5 from downtown in Game 3. He
is 10-11 in the NBA finals thus far, and shooting over 50% in the postseason.
His stats make him the most promising candidate to help impact the sluggish
Heat offense. Kawhi has been containing LeBron like a glove, making it
difficult for him to score 20+ points, and with Wade and Bosh struggling,
Miller is a great option.
If Mike
does end up starting, I expect him to play the first 6 minutes, and then let
Haslem or Allen step in to change up the tempo. Miller’s aching back and legs
will make him forcibly unable to compete defensively against the likes of
Splitter, Blair, Duncan, or even Kawhi Leonard. On offense, I expect he’ll put
up 15 points again.
